Vasilis Daskalakis launches the first educational establishment in Athens offering Liberal Studies in Applied Computer science known as ESEM.

The Business Centre of Athens (BCA) is founded and becomes the first private institution in Greece to offer courses in Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, Sales, Management, Industrial Management and Shipping.

BCA is the first private institution in Greece to establish an alliance with renowned European educational organizations.

Vasilis Daskalakis initiates the European College Centre for Business Studies (ECBS) situated in Rome, thus creating the first college in Greece which operates branches in Europe.

1984

The expansion abroad continues with the establishment of the Institute for Business Studies, (IBS) in Geneva.

1987

Two vocational training centers (K.E.K) are founded. The first center named BCA KEK, specializes in vocational training for the unemployed. The second named DIDASK KEK, offers education in industrial equipment engineering, and uses highly advanced training equipment from the German company FESTO.

1988

BCA participates in the ARCHIMEDE project of the European Union and in collaboration with the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and eight other European countries, conducts scientific research.

1993

DIDASK Educational System Ltd. is established with the primary focus of issuing textbooks related to the Group’s educational courses.

2000

The International School of Athens (I.S.A.) is founded. The I.S.A. is located in Kifissia, and is currently one of the largest and most reputable foreign schools in Greece.

2004

The International School of Athens is expanded to Larissa. The new school is named International School of Larissa (I.S.L.), and has an exclusive collaboration with the NATO base in Tyrnavos.

2009

The famous Melina’s Kindergarten, a chain of kindergartens, is founded in Athens.

2015

BCA establishes Athens Tech College, the first Tech College in Greece, in partnership with the University of Sheffield.

2019

BCA launches its new city campus, offering real-time Marine simulators as well as the first Hotel Simulator within its premises.

Professors

Our Professors are experts in the Maritime industry and active scientific researchers of the field. This ideal combination provides students with an in-depth analysis of the Shipping industry’s current issues through a multitude of case studies that enhance the learning process.

Mr. Poulovassilis joined Lloyd’s Register of Shipping in 1989 and had a distinguished 25-year career with the leading Classification Society, holding the post of Regional Marine Manager, Europe, Middle East & Africa from 2009 until 2015. For the past five years he has held leading positions for Ship Management and Operating companies, and currently is the Chief Operating Officer of a prominent Greek Shipping Company. He is a highly respected and experienced Senior Executive of the Maritime Industry and is also actively involved in numerous joint industry projects. He holds a BEng and MSc from Imperial College and University College London, respectively.

Professor Spyros Theodoropoulos holds a BA from The University of Piraeus in Shipping Economics and an LLM from Cardiff Law Scholl in Marine Legal Affairs. Since 2000, he has worked in various senior managerial and counsel positions within shipmanagement and chartering companies from Greece, Dubai and the USA. Through his long and active involvement in the Shipping industry, he acquired extensive experience in maritime legal affairs such as regulations, contract formation, dispute resolution, liabilities in tort, environmental issues etc. both from their legal perspective as well as the everyday/practical aspect. Some of the companies that Professor Theodoropoulos has worked over the years include GMS Dubai, Liquimar, Newport and Guardian Navigation.

Captain Georgios Tsouris is a Master Mariner, Lecturer in Shipping Operations and Maritime Consultant.
He is a member of the Board of Disciplinary Committee of the Greek Merchant Navy, as well as Ex Operations Manager & Deputy DPA- CSO in Shipping . He has served as a Secretary General B’ of the PAN-HELLENIC MASTERS AND MATES UNION , as well as a member of the Board of Directors of Greek Merchant Navy Retirement Fund .
Captain Tsouris has a total of 13 years sea service on board Bulk Carriers - Multi Purpose Vessels- Containers.
He serves as President of the Chios Marine Club.

Mr. Panagis Magoulas holds an MSc in Maritime Studies and International Transport from University of Wales, Cardiff College (1998), and a BSc in Business Administration from State University of New York, New Paltz College (1994) as well an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from State University of New York, Empire State College (1992).
Since 1999 he has been working as a full time Chartering broker in Doric Shipbrokers S.A. in Athens. His main core of business is dry cargo chartering of handy up to supra size ships. He is a member of The Baltic Exchange in London since 2006 and a panelist for the Baltic Handysize Index (BHSI).
He has attended in an Educational Program on Shipping Derivatives and Risk Management, from The Research Centre of Athens University of Economics and Business in 2005.

Experienced Lecturer for training courses with a demonstrated history of working in the maritime industry (42 full years with direct involvement for design, supervision & deliveries of over 90 ships / various types & sizes). Strong experience in 12 Shipyards / 6 different countries (for both new-buildings & repairs / dry dockings). Further experience in Ship Management, Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) management systems plus in current development of series of technical training courses. Graduated from National Technical University of Athens.

Dr. Nikolaos Liapis is a Mechanical Engineer, MEng NTUA and he holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering. His main areas of specialization are fuels and lubricants, tanker ships management, logistics and biofuels, as he has worked for more than 28 years in managerial positions in the Oil Sector. The last 15 years he was occupied as Chief Operations Officer in ELINOIL SA, an oil distribution company and as General Manager to ELIN SHIPPING, an affiliate shipping company, operating small tankers.
He is highly experienced in project management, overseeing projects as biodiesel production plant design and construction, fuel depots, construction and tanker design and construction.
Dr. Liapis is a Chairman of Hellenic Institute of Marine Technology (HIMT). and Member of the Board of Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association (HSSA). He is the Coordinator of the Energy Products Committee of the Hellenic Petroleum Marketing Companies Association (SEEPE, ) member of the Downstream Committee of South East Europe Energy Institute (IENE) and member of the Lloyd’s Register Technical Committee. He is a founding member of the Greek Association of Biofuel Producers (now SVIVE). He has been Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Marine LNG Network and of the Biofuels Technology Platform.
He is a lecturer at University of Piraeus, and at Business College of Athens and has been a lecturer at Athens Metropolitan College teaching Energy Policies, Maritime Logistics, Shipping and Strategic Management. He was a speaker at a significant number of conferences on energy, fuels, biofuels and shipping and he has been the representative of the European Biodiesel Board (EBB) in Greece. He is a writer of several books on nutrition, diet and cooking.

Nektarios OraiopoulosNektarios Oraiopoulos, PhD, is the Director of the MPhil Programme in Strategy, Marketing, & Operations and an Associate Professor of Operations and Technology Management at the Cambridge Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge. His research on innovation and R&D management has appeared in the leading journals of the field. He has won multiple awards and has been invited to make presentations at both academic and industry conferences. In addition to his academic work, he has advised entrepreneurial start-ups and has worked closely on research projects with numerous executives from the biopharmaceutical industry. He holds a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and a PhD in Business Administration from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Mr Elias Pavlou was educated both in Australia and the UK. He received his first degree in mathematics by the University of Wollongong, Australia. He continued his tertiary studies in the University of NSW, Australia where he acquired a Masters in Statistics. Later on, while working in the city of London as an analyst, he completed a Masters degree in Finance at the University of London, Birkbeck college.For the past 5 years Mr Pavlou has been working at the Business College of Athens where he is teaching quantitative modules and research methods both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.He had also been employed by the Open University in England for a number of years. There, he taught courses in the area of statistics and mathematics. He gained experience in offering learning to students coming from diverse educational, cultural and work backgrounds. His first teaching position was at the London South Bank University where he had the opportunity to teach Research methods at post graduate level within the Faculty of Social Sciences.Prior to his teaching career he had been working for about 15 years as a Research Analyst for blue chip companies both in Australia and the City of London. His duties involved proactively supporting the investment management decision making in the areas of performance, fund appraisals and pricing. Companies in which he was employed include:

Mr Constantinos E. Avtzigiannis has graduated from the University of Macedonia (B.Sc in Business Administration) and has completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Wales (Postgraduate Diploma in Port & Shipping Administration) and at the University of Manchester (M.Sc in International Business Management). He posses numerous professional certifications from Classification Societies (Bureau Veritas, DNV – GL, LRS, NKK), USCG and University of Portsmouth. He has worked in Operations and Quality / Safety Departments of ship management companies and from early 1994 he is an independent consultant in Safety / Quality / Environmental Protection / Security Management / Maritime Labour in shipping and land industries, working also as DPA/ CSO/MLC Manager/Quality Manager.

Holds a Degree in Public Administration from Panteion University, a Degree in Hellenic Coast Guard from the Hellenic Naval Academy, a Degree in Law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, a Master in Business Studies from the University of Kent and a Master Degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Athens (AUEB). Has served for more than 10 years as Officer of the Hellenic Coast Guard and has an experience of 12 years in the Crew Department of major Greek Shipping Companies.

Dr. Yannis Voudouris holds a PhD degree in Law from the University of London (2013). He did his LL.M. at the University of Kent (1999) and received his LL.B. degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (1997).
During his doctoral studies in London he researched in the field of liner and tramp shipping industry. He is currently researching in the areas of Maritime Law and Civil Mediation, at post-doc level.
His international and professional experience is diverse: He is a qualified attorney, member of the Athens Bar and commercial director in one of the most prestigious shipbroker firms in the world. Since 2000, Dr. Voudouris has taught Maritime Law, Marine Insurance, International Trade Law, Contract Law, European Law and Law and Political Economy, in various universities around the world (UK, Greece, Cyprus, India, Eastern Europe and Western Balkans). He joined the Shipping Department of BCA in 2013 teaching Maritime Law and International Trade Law to postgraduate students. In addition Dr. Voudouris has written various articles that await publication in the area of Competition Law, Trade Law and Commercial Mediation.

Ms. Argyro Doumani is a versatile professional with 23 years of work experience, coming from an advanced academic and analytical background. Since 2019, she has been the General Manager at the Hellenic Federation of Road Transport and from 2013 to 2018, she was an Executive Assistant to President. She has also worked as a Digital Marketing Executive at White Space – Marketing Services, as a General Manager at Bioluxe Cosmetics, and as a Marketing Manager and Assistant Accountant at Chambre Hellas S.A. She was the vice president of IRU Goods Transport Council for the term 2020-21. She is also a member of the National Logistics Council, the Hellenic Logistics Association (EEL)and the Economic Chamber of Greece. Ms. Doumani holds an MA in Marketing from the University of Portsmouth and an BA in Economics from the University of Piraeus.

George Kapetanis was born 4.5.1956 in Athens, Greece.
He attended the German School of Athens and 1976 began studying at the Technical University of Hannover, Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. In 1983 he got his diploma in Marine and Mechanical Engineering from the above University with a specialization in Marine Diesel Engines. He has further pursued post graduate studies in the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NA&ME
He has worked for almost 40 years in different areas of Marine Engineering including shipyards, shipping companies but also academic institutions. He is currently continuing his research activities for the National Technical University of Athens Department of Maritime Transport, being involved in research activities mainly in the field of Marine Emissions, Environmental and Safety.

Victoria D. Liouta is an Attorney, Mediator and Trainer of Mediators, International Commercial Arbitrator and Fellow of CIArb, Negotiator, Facilitator and has Master’s Degree in Maritime Law. She has worked in shipping field as maritime lawyer for the last 28 years with focus on Marine Insurance, Claims handling and Shipping Law, Negotiations and Arbitration and presently runs a company in marine insurance and claims sector. She has consulted and prepared clients in commercial, business, insurance and shipping mediations and arbitrations worldwide.

Spyros Hirdaris is Associate Professor of Marine Technology at Aalto University, Finland and Visiting Professor at Wuhan University of Technology, China. His international career spans for more than 20 years in between academia and industry. He completed his PhD on Naval Architecture at the University of Southampton, UK in 2002. Before joining Aalto university he worked for 14 years for Lloyd's Register internationally and spent short spells with UK based engineering consultancy firms. His educational portfolio includes ship design / dynamics, Maritime Policy and Regulations. In his research he combines knowledge from advanced ship theory and safety science for the prediction of the responses of ships operating in extreme conditions. He also works on de-risking emerging technologies (e.g. big data analytics, nuclear technology, autonomy etc.) for use in the design and operations of safe and sustainable ships. He is Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects, UK.

Working onboard S.Livanos - Hellas ships from 1962 until 1992 ! 1976 until 1992, Master onboard all type and size of tankers, including 6 VLCCs and 2 ULCCs.
1992, joined the office as Crew Manager of S.Livanos - Hellas and from 2000 until March 2019, appointed DPA and HSQE Manager at Sun Enterprises Ltd. April 2019 - September 2020, had the role of Senior Marine Advisor. On 30 September 2020, after 58 years, my devoted presence at S.Livanos Group was terminated ! Participated in several Oil Major workshops, including SHELL Maritime Partners in Safety. Panelist in various Forums and Conferences, including Navigator Shipping Decision Makers, Metropolitan College, Isalos, Mar / Edu etc. Member of HELMEPA Training Committee since 2014 !

Dave MillnerPanos Zachariadis is Technical Director of Atlantic Bulk Carriers Management Ltd since 1996. The company currently operates 22 bulk carriers. From 1984 to 1996 he was Marine Superintendent in the company’s New York office. His 38 year shipping experience spans diverse areas including sea service in bulk carriers and oil tankers, dry dock repairs, new-building supervision, negotiations and specifi-cations, ship operations and chartering. He holds a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering and a MSE degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan.
He has been attending IMO since 2004 as a member of the Greek delegation. He was extensively involved with IMO’s Goal Based Standards and the Greek study which reversed the IMO decision to make double hull bulk carriers mandatory. He was also instrumental in developing the new IMO coating standard (PSPC) for all ships’ ballast tanks. Currently he is involved in the new IMO environmental regulations for ships. Together with major shipyards he has applied numerous energy saving ideas, some of which have become industry standards.
He has written numerous technical guides, papers and articles and has been honored with the 2011 Efkranti award for his contribution to Greek shipping, the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association 2017 Maritime Personality award, the 2017 Lloyd's List "Achievement in Safety or Environmental Protection" award, the 2019 Green4Sea "Personality" award and the 2021 Lloyd's List "Technical Achievement" award. Member of Hellenic Chamber of Shipping and Union of Greek Shipowners technical committees, BIMCO Environmental Committee, ABS European Technical Committee, LR Technical Committee, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, SNAME, BOD HELMEPA and MARTECMA.

Dr. Sotiris GiannakakisDr. Gianakakis holds a Ph.D. in Sector of Law of Business and Labor Law, from Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School with specialization, in International Trade Law, Business Law, and International Law of the Sea, International Legal Problems and Investment Law in Natural Resources. He also, graduated first of his class, from the Law School of Democritus University of Thrace.
He is an attorney at-Law practicing, in the fields of Shipping Law, Commercial Law, Business Law, Real Estate and Franchising. He is the general manager of the Greek Franchise Association, the legal counsel of the Greek Franchise Association and the vice-secretary for the Legal Matters of the World Franchise Counsel. He was a teaching assistant of Prof. Louis Shon at Harvard Law School in the field of the Law of the Sea. He was a part-time lecturer at Istanbul Aydin University, for five years, teaching Business Law, International Trade Law and International Public Law. He is a part-time lecturer for Greek Colleges (BCA, CMA) teaching Shipping and Business Law. He has authored and published various studies and has a constant presence, writing articles in the daily financial press on franchising issues as well as in specialized magazines on franchising. He has repeatedly participated as a speaker and delegate in international and Greek conferences and workshops on franchising and e-commerce.
